The Folsom GATOROBYTES returned this weekend from the Children’s Climate Call (CCC) European Open Championship. The European Open Championship hosted about 50 teams from 29 countries and 6 continents bringing together about 700 participants. The team quickly adjusted to the changes in time and environment and had a wonderful experience both in the tournament and in the city of Copenhagen. We also were able to work with other teams (especially with the 3 other US teams) in various events like the team party, singing of the national anthem etc. The hotel we stayed also housed many teams and so we were able to mingle with other teams (outside of the event). We were able to give each team a bag with goodies from our sponsors: Intel, LEGOLAND, Folsom Tourism, American River Water Education Center (including NCaFLL pins and our buttons).
The Crown Prince of Denmark visited the event along with the LEGO owner, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen.
The GATOROBYTES won the Teamwork Award at the event and were also nominated as one of the top three teams for the Research Quality Award. More information about this event can be found at www.childrensclimatecall.org.
The website also describes the Teamwork Award as follows:
“Team work is critical to succeed in FLL and is the key ingredient in any team’s success. This award is presented to the team whose members best demonstrate extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit, exceptional partnership, the utmost respect for their own teammates, and support and encouragement of fellow teams. They demonstrated confidence, energy, strong problem solving skills, and great group dynamics.”
Most of the team stayed back a week to visit the Capitals of the Scandinavian countries (Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo).
Thanks,
